A fully incorporated Association, the Cairns Rock and Roll Dance Club has had over 1000 members and was founded over 14 years ago. During its humble beginnings the club struggled to find a regular ‘home’ large enough to accommodate the numbers of dancers involved, with a good environment.  The club is now accommodated by ‘De Jarlias Function Centre’ in the Cairns Showgrounds on Mulgrave Road.

Club members are regularly called on to perform in public at openings, product releases, charity fundraising, and purely to entertain at venues from Dimbulah to Townsville and Cooktown. All members of the club act in an honorary capacity and the club survives purely on revenue that it generates.

The objects of our club are:
A: To provide and foster the playing of rock and roll in all its forms..
B: To promote and foster rock and roll dancing lessons, conventions and gatherings for the benefit of musicians and the public alike.
C: To provide facilities for education in rock and roll dance/music.
D: To provide benefits and enjoyment for the members of the club, their guests and the general public.
E: To keep Members and the general public informed of the activities of the club.

Many styles of ‘Rock and Roll’ dance exist with Jive (4 & 6 step), Rock-a-Billy, and Swing being predominant. All styles are catered for and encouraged at the club.

The age group of our dancers is open with our current youngest dancer being 8 and our most senior being well over 60.

With a predominate emphasis on the social aspects of the club environment, the Cairns Rock and Roll Dance Club dances every Monday evening at the De Jarlais Function Centre at The Cairns Showground where dance tuition and social dancing is enjoyed. These lessons and social evenings are conducted with fun and enjoyment in mind with some emphasis on structure and formality.
